3 Things To Consider Adding To Your Metal Barn

by Anni Heikkinen

Are you planning the construction of a metal barn? Have you thought about the extra accessories and things that you would benefit from including in the construction of the metal barn? Here, you'll find a few accessories to consider that you may not have considered as of yet.

Roofing Snow Guards

If you live in an area that is prone to lots of snow, you'll want to spend a little extra to have some snow guards installed on the roofing. The metal sloped roof will hold a lot of snow, but then, it will all break free and crash to the ground. The falling snow and ice is very heavy and can cause serious injuries to anyone standing below and can damage anything that it hits. Snow guards will prevent the snow from crashing to the ground.

Insulation

Do you hope to control the climate inside your metal barn? If so, you'll need to have the barn insulated. You can choose from the many types of insulation – fiberglass, rigid, spray-on or bubble insulation.

Fiberglass is an affordable, beneficial product that installs easily and can have a vapor barrier backing on it. This will help to limit the moisture levels and mold growth in the space.

Rigid insulation is the foam board insulation. It is more expensive and will not last as long as your other options.

Spray-on insulation is one of the best products on the market these days. It sprays on and swells after it has been applied to the surface. As it swells, it fills up all of the gaps and cracks that would allow air to leak in or out. Not only is this a great option for temperature control, but it will also help to absorb noise and limit how much is heard outside. The downside to this product is that it does not block vapors and will absorb moisture and oils in the air.

Flooring

What type of work will you be doing in the metal barn? If you aren't planning on doing much, you can leave the flooring dirt, but if you plan on using it for storage or for work, you'll want to finish the flooring with something. You can opt for a gravel floor, concrete or go all out and completely finish the floor with concrete finished with aggregate epoxy. The epoxy flooring over concrete will be your longest lasting option and will keep the moisture levels the lowest.

About Me

Storage Units Make Spring Cleaning Easier

Including my husband and I, we have a family of six, but we live in a smaller house to help stash away more money in our children's college funds. Our family does a big house spring cleaning every year, and up until a few years ago, it used to be a lot more stressful. It got a lot easier when we decided to start renting a storage unit. Now, we keep our winter clothes in the unit during the summer and vice versa, and we store items we only use occasionally. Not having so much "stuff" around the house just makes it a lot easier to keep our house clean and free of clutter. I have learned a lot about storage units since we started renting ours, so I thought I would start a blog to share my tips on to help anyone who needs them!
