Features To Look For When Renting Your Construction Container

by Anni Heikkinen

If you own a construction business and want to start branching out to complete larger jobs, then you may need to purchase some extra tools and other types of equipment. Your tools are invaluable to your job, and you should store them appropriately. Renting a construction container to do this is a good idea. Most of these containers are made from structural steel and look a lot like shipping containers or storage pods. You can often find containers that are 20 feet wide and either 8 or 10 feet long. When you choose the container, you will be able to choose some features. Keep reading to learn about a few things you absolutely should choose.

Shielded Vents

Some steel construction containers are completely solid on all four sides and have a single door towards the front. While a solid container is secure and safe, it does not allow the storage space to aerate properly. This can cause substantial mold and mildew issues, especially if you decide to store damp tools in the space. Also, pneumatic and water-based saws and other tools may form mildew.

To help reduce mold issue, make sure to choose a construction container that is fitted with shielded vents. Shielded vents are openings on either the side or the top of the container that are covered with a mesh or wire grate. The openings are formed to allows air flow in while also blocking moisture from entering.

Along with shielded vents, some containers come with louvered vents on both ends of the container. The vents are larger, more open, and allow for circular air flow through the storage space. If you want the larger vents, just make sure to avoid any container that has turbine vents instead of louvered varieties. These can force moisture back into the container as the spin.

Secure Locking Systems

Most construction containers have secure locking systems based on the expensive tools and equipment stored inside of them. These systems are often two-fold with a strong latch with interlocking steel bars or cams that slide into place. The best locks have bars that slide towards the top, middle, and bottom of the door for the best security. This helps to keep burglars from forcing the door open.

Along with the security bars, look for a container that has a tumbler lock with a cylinder and a key. Hardened steel locks are the best option and so are keyholes that are hidden so the lock is difficult to even locate if some searches for it.

If you do not think that you need a secure lock, then find a container that accepts a sturdy padlock. Purchase a hardened steel lock with an enclosed shackle.

About Me

Storage Units Make Spring Cleaning Easier

Including my husband and I, we have a family of six, but we live in a smaller house to help stash away more money in our children's college funds. Our family does a big house spring cleaning every year, and up until a few years ago, it used to be a lot more stressful. It got a lot easier when we decided to start renting a storage unit. Now, we keep our winter clothes in the unit during the summer and vice versa, and we store items we only use occasionally. Not having so much "stuff" around the house just makes it a lot easier to keep our house clean and free of clutter. I have learned a lot about storage units since we started renting ours, so I thought I would start a blog to share my tips on to help anyone who needs them!
